The Kiosk App can print to most printers using our GuestIO software. These print jobs are triggered automatically from an iPad sign-in. This knowledge article walks through some troubleshooting steps if you’re having trouble printing with either of these two methods.
NOTE: GuestIO is only compatible on PC.
Printing from an iPad
This section walks through useful areas to check if you are attempting to print badges from an iPad sign-in.
Make sure that the iPad, PC, and printer can communicate
Since iPad printing will require a connection between three different pieces of hardware (iPad>PC>Printer), make sure that all three are able to communicate with each other. Most commonly, this means that all three are put on the same network, but your setup can vary depending on your use-case (eg. USB connection between PC and printer). It’s a good idea to check if your firewall is potentially blocking the connection between your iPad, PC, and printer.
Check to see that your printer can receive print jobs from the PC
A good initial troubleshooting step is to see if your printer can receive print jobs from your PC without using GuestIO. Essentially, you want to make sure that the problem doesn’t lie within a potential block between the PC and your printer before we spend too much time working with GuestIO. Most printers have test print options that can be triggered through its program options.
Check that your GuestIO & iPad settings are correct
Make sure that your GuestIO app is running and that the correct printer is selected. Then, make sure that the IP address listed matches the IP address that you’ve entered in your app’s printer settings.
Your IP address and Current Printer can be found after clicking the ‘i’ icon on the left-hand side of the GuestIO app.
You can then verify this information by going to the printer settings in the Kiosk App on the iPad. The Printer Settings tab is accessed after tapping the ‘i’ icon in the top-right hand corner of the Welcome Page of the iPad app:
Then, ensure that your printer settings/configuration is aligned with your GuestIO settings:
1. Tap on PRINTER SETTINGS.
2. Make sure that the GuestPrint box is checked on.
3. Tap SET PRINTER MANUALLY
4. Make sure the IP address matches the IP address listed in GuestIO
5. Tap DONE to exit out of your Printer settings.
Optionally, you can also create a test print from the Printer Error Logs tab within the app. To do so:
1. Tap on the ‘i’ icon in the top-right corner of the Welcome Page on the app.
2. Tap on PRINTER ERROR LOGS
3. Tap TEST PRINT.
Ensure that ‘Print Badge’ is selected at the end of your experience
The final thing to check is that the ‘Print Badge’ button is checked on in the Thank You Page(s) where you intend badges to print at the end of a visitor’s sign-in experience.
Make sure that GuestIO is running
GuestIO can run in the background if closed, but it’s a good idea to check that it’s still running in your program tray. This is the up arrow found in the bottom-right corner of your task bar:
