Why Microsoft Graph?
Microsoft Graph offers a robust API gateway for seamless integration with a wide range of Microsoft services. Here’s how you will benefit:
Enhanced Security: The Graph API follows the principle of least privilege, meaning it only requests permissions necessary for specific tasks, minimising the exposure of your data. Full Impersonation rights are no longer needed.
Improved Privacy: The Graph API allows for more granular control over what data is accessed and how it is used, ensuring your information is only used for its intended purpose.
Scalable and Extensible: The Graph API is designed to be scalable and extensible.
Better Transparency and Control: You have better visibility and control over what permissions Planner needs and why.
Better Compliance and Regulatory Alignment: The Graph API aligns with current standards and regulatory updates.
User-Friendly Consent Process: The Graph API uses a streamlined consent flow where users can easily grant permissions through a clear and intuitive interface.
Alignment with Microsoft’s Strategic Direction: The Graph API is central to Microsoft’s strategic direction for cloud services and integration. With this move, we will benefit from future innovations and improvements.
Before we can upgrade your Workspace Planner site from the EWS Exchange Integration to the Microsoft Graph Exchange Integration, we need you to grant consent from your Planner account. If your organization also uses the Office 365 Add-In, you will need to also grant consent to continue using that. This article walks through both processes.
The sections below include:
Granting Consent to Your Planner Account
First, click the Administration button in the top menu bar. Then, click Integrations.
Make Sure Prerequisites Are Met
You must have a costless billing account and a default meeting type configured. This will be used by the synchronization service if it cannot find any billing account on the meeting being synchronized.
You will likely see a warning that you are using an active EWS Exchange Integration. This is expected as we are just beginning the upgrade process. At this power, we are only granting consent and nothing as actually changed yet.
Ensure a Default Meeting Type Exists
Click Settings in the top menu bar. Then, in the left menu, select Meeting Types. Ensure that one of your meeting types is set as Standard.
Grant Consent
After your prerequisites have been met, you can now grant consent. Click back into the Integrations page from the top menu bar. Then, click the Connect button in the top-right corner.
Authenticate with a Microsoft account with Administrator Privileges, then click Accept.
Planner is now connected to Microsoft 365 with the Microsoft Graph Exchange Integration. You will see a message in your account indicating that you are "Connected to Calendar service". The first stage of this upgrade is now complete.
Granting Consent to The Office 365 Outlook Add-In
If your organization also uses the Office 365 Add-In, you will also need to grant consent from your Planner account. This is once again accessed by clicking Administration in the top menu bar, then Integrations.
Click Outlook Add-in in the left menu. Then click Grant Admin Consent.
Authenticate with a Microsoft account with Administrator Privileges and Accept the permission request.
