Preparing for Your Migration from EWS to Microsoft Graph

To migrate from EWS to Microsoft Graph, a few important steps must be completed in advance. This guide outlines everything required to ensure a smooth transition.

Before You Begin

  • An Azure Global Administrator is required to grant the necessary permissions.

  • We recommend completing the consent step the afternoon before or the morning of your scheduled migration.

  • Once Graph permissions are granted, the VSTO add-in will stop working.


Step 1: Grant Microsoft Graph Permissions

To begin the migration, Graph permissions must be granted in your Sign In Solutions environment.

Grant Consent for Calendar Synchronisation

  1. Within Planner Web, navigate to Administration.

  2. Select Integrations.

  3. Click Calendar Synchronization.

  4. Select Grant Consent.

If you see Re-grant Consent, this step has already been completed.

Grant Consent for Outlook Add-in

  1. Within Planner Web, navigate to Administration.

  2. Select Integrations.

  3. Click Outlook Add-in.

  4. Select Grant Consent.

If you see Re-grant Consent, this has already been completed.


Step 2: Disable and Remove the VSTO Add-in

The VSTO add-in must be disabled and removed before the migration can proceed.

Disable the VSTO

  1. Go to Settings.

  2. Select Other Settings.

  3. Scroll down.

  4. Toggle Disable VSTO to ON.

Remove the VSTO from Outlook

The VSTO add-in must be removed from all users’ Outlook applications.

⚠️ The VSTO and the new O365 add-in cannot run alongside each other.


Step 3: Install the O365 Add-in

There are two installation options:

  • Central deployment (recommended)

  • Individual user installation


Option 1: Central Deployment (Recommended)

This must be completed by a Microsoft 365 Administrator.

Download the Manifest File

  1. Go to Planner Web.

  2. Click Administrator.

  3. Select IntegrationsOutlook Add-in.

  4. Download the Outlook Manifest file.

Deploy via Microsoft 365 Admin Center

  1. Open the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.

  2. Go to SettingsIntegrated Apps.

  3. Select Add-ins.

  4. Click Deploy Add-in.

  5. Choose Deploy custom add-in.

  6. Select Upload custom apps.

  7. Choose I have a file for the manifest file.

  8. Upload the downloaded Pronestor manifest file.

  9. Click Upload.

  10. Follow the on-screen instructions to select which users should receive the add-in.

Note: Central deployment can take up to 72 hours to take effect.


Option 2: Install Per User

Download the Manifest File

  1. Go to Planner Web.

  2. Select AdministratorIntegrationsOutlook Add-in.

  3. Download the Outlook Manifest file.

Install in Outlook (Web)

  1. Log in to Outlook on the web.

  2. Open Add-ins for Outlook here

  3. Select My Add-ins.

  4. Scroll to Custom Add-ins.

  5. Click Add a custom add-in.

  6. Choose Add from file.

  7. Select the Manifest file and click Open.

  8. Click Install.

  9. Wait for the installation to complete.

Installation is now complete.


Step 4: Book Your Migration

Sign In Solutions performs EWS to Graph migrations:

Monday – Thursday
Up to approximately 12:00 CET
