Give your visitors a QR code they can scan at your doors or turnstiles, sent with their invite email. Visitors can get through the gate before they reach reception, and nobody has to hand out a card.
When you send an invite with an access control QR code, Sign In Solutions creates a temporary visitor credential in your access control system, applies the access rule you choose, and includes the QR code in the invite email.
Before you begin
Your location must be connected to a supported on-premises access control system: Paxton Net2, Genetec Security Center or Lenel OnGuard.
Access control must be included in your plan. If you are not sure, contact your account manager or our support team.
Your door or turnstile readers must be able to read QR codes.
You need admin access to the location to complete the setup steps.
Step 1. Turn on QR code credentials
Go to Locations and select your location.
Open the Physical Access tab.
Click Preferences for your access control provider.
Switch on QR code credentials.
Click Save.
If you use Lenel OnGuard
OnGuard needs a matching badge type before you can turn on QR code credentials. In OnGuard, create a badge type with these settings:
Name: SIS QR Code
Badge Type Class: Visitor
Badge ID Allocation: Auto Generate
Then, in Sign In Solutions, click Refresh provider on the Physical Access tab and follow the steps above.
Step 2. Set up and assign access rules
Access rules decide which doors a visitor's QR code opens, and when. Each person who sends invites can only choose from the access rules assigned to them.
On the Physical Access tab, click Manage rules.
Create the access rules you need, or check your existing ones.
Click Assign and choose which people can use each rule.
Step 3. Add the QR code to your invite email
The QR code is delivered in the invite email, so your invite email template must include the QR code block.
Open the invite email template for your location.
Add the Access Control QR Code block.
Optionally, switch on Add to Wallet so visitors can save the QR code to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.
Save the template.
Step 4. Check permissions
To see the QR code option on an invite, a person's role needs the Send Emails invite permission. You can check this under roles and permissions.
Send an invite with an access control QR code
Go to Invites and click Create Invite.
Select the location and enter the visitor's details, including their email address.
Set the visit start and end time.
Under Access control QR (optional), tick Send guest an access control QR.
Choose an Access rule.
Make sure the invite email is switched on. It switches on automatically when you tick the QR code option.
Click Save.
You will see the message Invite created with access control QR. Your visitor receives their invite email with the QR code, ready to scan when they arrive.
When your visitor arrives
Visitors with an access control QR code show it in the QR Credential column of the guestbook.
If you assign a card or fob to the visitor at sign in, you will be warned that they already have a QR code from their invite. Assigning the card removes the QR code.
If Return on sign out is switched on in your provider preferences, the visitor's access is removed automatically when they sign out.
Good to know
The QR code option is only available when creating an invite. It cannot be added by editing an existing invite.
An email address is required, as this is how the QR code is delivered.
Paxton Net2: access starts as soon as the invite is saved, rather than at the invite start time, and ends at the invite end time. This is because Net2 does not support a start time on temporary access.
